Just a place to get us where we want to go. However this doesn't have to be the case. With a little imagination you can create a wonderful place to inspire with every step.
Whether they are leading to another part of the business or just to the Loo, create that talking point. Each step can be different or you can havea full picture staircase. One thing is certain, your stairs will be totally unique!
All students at Lancaster Royal Grammar School will be heading up the assembly hall stairs at some time in their student career.
Collaborating with all the year groups, we wanted to show what each year will be doing through images. Each year group came up with their thoughts on what would represent their year and I then transferred that into a colourful representation of their ideas.
Dr Chris Pyle, Head at Lancaster Royal Grammar School said, " it’s great that we have the OL (Old Lancastrians) steps to look back at but these steps are for the pupils that are here now"
I am super proud that the fantastic Lancaster Royal Grammar School have really taken on board the stair art in the school.
After completing the Old Lancastrian steps in the New Building, the marketing team and students came up with idea for the logos to go on the Assembly hall stairs. (The stairs leading up to the Assembly hall will be next!).
What a fabulous difference this has made to the look of the Hall. From now on each student that climbs the stairs will be walking up and over the crest that represents Lancaster Royal Grammar School.

Lancaster Royal Grammar School goes back hundreds of years and has had some very famous 'OL's' pass through its doors. Names get forgotten and so the students got together to gather a list of their most inspirational past students.
The Beer Hall at Galgate in Lancashire is a new bar that has created a brewing experience beneath the bar. You can actually see the beer being produced then sample it in the bar upstairs. This is a great example of a innovative way to make your entrance a focal point.
Not only did the Grammar School want to celebrate their past students but they wanted to get their present students involved in the process too.
The were tasked to shortlist 19 worthy names to adorn the entrance stairs to the school building creating a real talking point.
The top stair is left for 'Your Name Here' - what an inspirational school.
The Borough in Lancaster wanted to celebrate all things Lancaster on their main stairs to the bathrooms and their new accommodation.
The staircase can be seen as soon as you enter the bar and creates a real focal point.
Books old and new were chosen to create this amazing staircase. From Lancaster Bomber to the Wars of the Roses to Peter Rabbit.
Kevin visited the Borough to view his book on the stair case. Kevin, born in Lancashire is a World Businessman. CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi from 1997 to 2014 and creator of Red Rose Consulting. Lovemarks was published in 2004 replacing the idea of Brands.
The Ashton Memorial is the most beautiful of buildings and can be seen from far and wide. The green dome is a famous landmark across Lancashire. This was built by Lord Ashton for his wife between 1907 - 1909.
Frederick Crossfield Happold. DSO, LLD, MA (1893-1971) was an educational Pioneer, tenured headmaster, author and decorated British Army Officer. He attended Lancaster Royal Grammar School.
The Red Rose of Lancaster was the heraldic badge adopted by the royal House of Lancaster in the 14th Century. In modern times it symbolises the county of Lancashire. The exact species which it represents is thought to be Rosa gallica officinalis.
John Eric Bartholomew OBE (14th May 1926 - 28th May 1984) known by his stage name Eric Morecambe. Eric took his stage name from his home town, the seaside resort of Morecambe in Lancashire. He can be seen on the steps of the Beer Hall Galgate.
Hops is the resident dog of the Beer Hall, Galgate. He is on the stairs of the Beer Hall to welcome all his four legged friends (as well as their human owners). A great example that this is a dog friendly bar.
Herbert Lushington Storey had a significant role in the development of the Westfield War Memorial Village. This is a charity that originally established in 1919 to provide homes for disabled ex-servicemen. Herbert attended Lancaster Royal Grammar School and now adornes a step in the New Building.
